Social Network Sites

Two items of note:

  • The Society of Rheology has set up a discussion group on LinkedIn.  You must be a member of SOR to join.  So far I've seen discussions on geopolymers and chocolate.
  • Anton Paar USA is on Facebook.  I believe that you need to be a customer or prospect to join, as when you search "anton paar" on Facebook, nothing comes up.
(I tend to use Facebook during my leisure hours, so I rarely log onto the site at work.  Is anyone else using Facebook at work?)

  1. I'm with Betty on this one: I'd call it a huge waste of time, but I'm a nice guy.

Nonetheless, in the last month, Aspen Research setup a Facebook page and they, plus our corporate owners a.k.a. the Mothership - cue the Darth Vader music, are actually encouraging us to participate. This is extremely unusual given that the IT people won't let us access YouTube, any streaming music or video, any image search engine such as Google Images or Flickr, any private email system, and many other sites that I can't recall at this moment.

Oh, and our newly leased boxes have CD/DVD readers, but not burners. I didn't know such things still existed. Try buying a computer yourself with such a drive. It would cost you more because it is such a special order.

When "Dilbert" meets with Mordac, the Preventer of Information Services, he is meeing with our IT department.
